Tables are an interesting category of Tibetan furniture, consisting of a large variety of types and styles, which areusually defined by their use. The tall, elaborately carved and/orpainted tables are throne tables, which would have been found infront of a Lama''s high seat. Lower tables,  often painted onthree or even four sides, or those made of hard wood, which wereunpainted and possibly lightly carved, would have been used infront of seats either in the monasteries or in the households.Folding tables were also used in front of seats and could easily betransported, perhaps for use in the open or in the tents forpicnics or other occasions. The long, low, finely decorated tableswere placed in front of altars, containing representations of theBuddha, and on them were placed traditional offerings. The cabrioletables, called by the Tibetans kyi-su, meaning "dog-legged", areamongst the most sought after pieces of Tibetan furniture becauseamong them are found some of the earliest pieces of Tibetanfurniture. The great diversity of decorative styles and patternsfound on the tables are comparable to those encountered on thecabinets.

Tibetan tables have the longest history among Tibetan furniture, and are varied in shape and design. They mainly serve as dinningtables and tea tables. Some times, they are also used in religiousceremonies. These tables are designed in a special way. Some ofthem can be folded, very convenient. Most of the Tibetan tables arecovered with paintings of dragon or other peculiar animals, and areengraved with patterns of leaves, bamboos, etc.
